Overseas Marketing
The Isle of Man has been welcoming visitors from overseas starting with Vikings over 1,000 years ago!
Approximately 6% of the Island’s visitors come from abroad. Many visit the Island for the world famous TT motorcycle races in June each year. Increasingly, however, the Isle of Man is attracting overseas visitors outside this period. They are able to enjoy stunning countryside, vintage transport, beaches and heritage on a short break or longer holiday. Outdoor activities include golf (9 courses), walking, fishing and cycling. Sports and special events play an important part in Island life and the summer months have a packed calendar of events. To find out more visit www.visitisleofman.com.
The Island’s key overseas markets are Germany and France but interest is growing from Holland, Belgium, Austria, Scandinavia, Switzerland and North America. Access to the Isle of Man has never been easier, click here for details of travel to the Island. Recently there have been great improvements in the through ticketing and connections from around the world.
The Department of Tourism is keen to support overseas operators with Isle of Man programs and to encourage operators to consider the Isle of Man as a new destination. From planning through to implementation Isle of Man Tourism is able to offer its expertise and financial assistance with joint advertising and promotional initiatives. In the past we have been able to offer accompanied familiarisation visits to help potential operators to discover what the destination has to offer in terms of accommodation, travel, special events, activities and interests and to provide introductions to key Isle of Man Tourism suppliers. Assistance is available through the Department’s image library to provide photography for both the Internet and printed material. Proposals for joint activity are considered on a case-by-case basis.
The Isle of Man Department of Tourism works to promote the Island as a tourist destination. Marketing activities include overseas exhibitions, foreign language brochures and print, PR, trade and consumer advertising as well as through the Internet.
The Island is a member of the England’s North Country Marketing Consortium and has representation through Visitbritain offices throughout the world.
The Department is keen to hear from both potential and existing Isle of Man operators and can be contacted by e-mail at tourism@gov.im
